We offer a free after-school program for fall, winter, and spring terms. Our classroom curriculum is focused on four themes: leadership, teamwork, trust, and risk-taking. Each term our girls are able to apply the life-skills from our classroom curriculum to an action sport or outdoor activity.
In 1972, Title IX opened the door for women and girls to participate in sports, free from discrimination. However, many girls in our Portland community lack access to sports. Betties360 carries the torch forward and provides opportunities for girls to try sports and outdoor activities and step out of their comfort zone in a supportive female environment. Activities include mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, camping, skateboarding and more. During these activities the girls practice setting goals and apply other life-skills from our program curriculum.
Our fall term programming focuses on biking and bike safety. We partner with organizations like the Lumberyard Indoor Bike Park where our participants get a chance to try out BMX and mountain biking on a variety of different courses. Our winter term programming focuses on rock climbing. We partner with organizations like the Mazamas where our participants learn rock climbing and belaying. Click the image above to see photos of our recent trips to the Mazamas and Circuit Bouldering Gym.
Our spring term programming focuses on hiking and camping. We partner with organizations like the Audubon Society of Portland for our end of the year overnight camping trip where participants from each after-school program get to meet their fellow Betties.
