We’re hiring! Betties360 is looking for a part-time After-School Instructor for the 2017 – 2018 academic school year (September 2017 through May 2018). 

POSITION:   After-School Program Instructor
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator
TYPE: Hourly Part-time,  Up to 15 hours/week
CONTRACT PERIOD: 9 months/year September to May
SALARY: Competitive, based on experience

JOB SUMMARY
This position is for an independent contractor, working part-time. The Instructor will teach 24 after-school programs for 6th thru 8th grade girls at a variety of schools in the Portland Metro area over the course of a school year.  Programs follow a curriculum which incorporates fun activities centered on building confident and resilient girls through action sports and outdoor activities.  Inspiring confidence, well-being and community in girls is ultimately what the Instructor strives for throughout the school year and the Instructor can propose modifications where she feels it would be useful.  School teaching hours vary, but generally are between 1:00 to 5:00, depending on the school. Most classes are 2-2 ½ hours long. Weekly paid preparation time may be 1-3 hours, depending on the curriculum. To supplement hours the Instructor may be asked to work on special projects throughout the year.  

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver up to 24 after school programs at schools in the Portland Metro area.
– Work with the schools to recruit girls prior to the start of each term
– Plan weekly class agendas based on curriculum provided
– Coordinate with staff at schools in providing an efficient program that meets school guidelines
– Prepare each program’s supplies and gear
– Supervise all class activities, program volunteers and student participants
– Collect required program data
– Meet regularly with the Program Coordinator to review schedules, curricula, developments in schools and classes
– Meet as requested with Betties360 board members to assist in evaluating the program

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
– Experience teaching, facilitating, and delivering programs to youth
– Commitment to inspiring and supporting young women
– Excellent sense of responsibility, time management, and organizational skills
– Strong interpersonal skills
– Ability to to improvise and adapt in dynamic learning environments
– Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
– Understanding of various learning styles and challenges
– Enthusiasm for outdoor adventure
– Safety awareness, situational awareness, calmness under pressure
– Willingness to try new things
– BA/BS in Education or Equivalent combination of Education and  Experience
– Personal transportation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
– Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)
– Experience working in schools with ethnic minority and low-income students
– First Aid training and certification
